I wasn't sure they'd work, the plates are curved, with the fuller showing on the underside, creating an elongated M in section.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eI figured these actually prevent the blade from passing right through the handle when closed, perhaps even pinching it to hold it closed too.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSo, I decided to treat this one as a prototype, skipping some of the finishing details, and just machine finishing it rather than hand sanding.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe plates are made from puddle iron, a form of wrought-iron, which are brazed at the tip.
